Dust off your couture: the Met Ball is back – Dazed

The first Monday in May usually sees the most glittering event in the fashion calendar play out, as Anna Wintour’s lucky chosen ones descend on NY’s Metropolitan Museum for a night of drinking, dancing, and major couture moments. You guessed it: we’re talking about the Met Ball
Last year, however, the whole thing was called off as the virus that needs no introduction swept the globe. The good news for those feeling starved of glamour right now (hi!) is that it’s back on for 2021.
According to Page Six, the gala is forgoing its usual May slot for a later date, in the hopes that the world will look a little more normal by that point. Reportedly set to take place on September 13, the theme is yet to be announced – but Amanda Gorman and Tom Ford are tipped to host.
In light of the cancelled 2020 Met Ball, High Fashion Twitter’s community took it upon themselves to hold their own online event. The HFT URL ball saw international fashion fans turn homemade couture looks on the TL, and demonstrated the wild creativity of the rising generation. A second digital gala spearheaded by the organiser’s of last year’s outing is set to go ahead in May.
While you wait for September to roll around – or otherwise start digging out a look for HFT’s event – revisit some of the campiest looks from 2019’s Met Gala in the gallery above.
