By Ted Grussing
… this evening I was scrolling through some folders of animals that I have shot at wildlife parks and when I was reviewing a shoot I did years ago at Out of Africa in Camp Verde, I put this image of a White Bengal Tiger up on the screen. One lifted her head from my lap and looked at the screen … so I blew the image up and she got off my lap, walked across the keyboard and put a paw on the screen … a salute to family and a directive to me to send her choice out tonight. I do sleep alone in a home that has a feline predator that hunts her territory whilst I am sleeping, so compliance with her directives is really a matter of survival … so here is her choice.
On the same outing we came on a Zebra foal that had very recently been born. They hit the ground at around 70 pounds and within an hour are able to follow their mom around. A necessity when you consider that in the wild there are predators looking for the new born, frail and most vulnerable prey. When they are first born they have brown stripes which turn the familiar black after about a year.
Both of these beautiful creatures were photographed at Out of Africa and they still have the White Bengal Tiger. The Tiger Splash show that they put on daily is truly amazing and if you have not seen it you should.
My first monthly column in Sedona Monthly is in the current November issue and the subject is Red Mountain … next month will be Sedona in Snow, a good topic for December. Check them out.
Event coming up will be the presentation at Keep Sedona Beautiful on November 10th at the Sedona Hub. Everyone is invited and is free of charge.
Time to wrap what has been a wonderful day … much accomplished and best was time with friends … enjoy the moment because for now, you are here and capable of doing just that.
