Note to anyone who is thinking of sending me an invite to anything occurring before noon. Don’t. I’m not a morning person. However, when I received the kind invitation from Lisa Cooley (my September issue “She’s the Bomb”), chair of the 47th annual Crystal Charity Ball Ten Best Dressed Women of Dallas and the Art of Fashion Brunch, I promised myself I would rally for the eagerly anticipated occasion.
I could hear the enthusiastic crowd chit-chatting away as I stepped on the escalator from the second to the third floor of Neiman Marcus NorthPark. I assume the conversations were perhaps a bit more animated since champagne flutes seemed to be in most everyone’s hands. This year’s fashion show featured a collection of the “best of” Neiman Marcus luxury labels, such as Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, Valentino, Jenny Packham, and Alexander McQueen. It was quite fun playing “name that designer” as looks came down the runway.
Post-fashion show, everyone descended to the second floor where our brunch seating had been set (rain had waylaid the plans to be in the exterior courtyard). I spied a fun group seated at Nancy Roger‘s table included Tina Chen Craig, Brian Bolke, Amy Phelan, Rochelle Gores Feldston, and Leigh Anne Clark. Craig shared with us to make sure we all made our way downstairs to the always bustling beauty and cosmetics first floor of Neimans as they had set-up a prominent display of some of the new products from her U Beauty line.
Brooke Dowdy, PaperCity‘s publisher, and I were pleased to find a bunch of the home team at our table: Jodi Kahn (DMM of Fine Apparel, Neiman Marcus Group), David Goubert (President and Chief Customer Officer, Neiman Marcus Group), Daz McColl (Chief Marketing Officer, Neiman Marcus Group), Brandy Richardson (Chief  Financial Officer, Neiman Marcus Group), Mary McGreevy (Vice President, Market General Manager, Neiman Marcus Group), Teri Hardin (Vice President, General Manager, Neiman Marcus Group), and Leslie Diers (Chairman, Crystal Charity Ball)
Who wanted the day to end? Not moi. Nancy then suggested that we head up to Park House since we seemed to be only an hour or shy from the official start to happy hour. From there, our group began to swell again as many of the Ten Best Dressed came sauntering in after two turns on the runway and in desperate need of a cocktail. Those I spied throughout the day included Meredith Land, Jennifer Karol, Claire Emanuelson, Kelli Ford, Charlotte JonesMyrna Schlegel, Kim HextShelby Wagner, and Niven Morgan, Piper Wyatt, and Kameron Westcott.
Perhaps the funniest moment of my day — I actually never got a moment with my friend Lisa Cooley. Ever the gracious hostess, she texted me the next day to say she had looked for me. I told her I had admired her from afar and my big question: who was the designer of her gorgeous cream-colored frock with intricate detailing? St. John she replied. Then we had some fun back and forth moments where I shared that I heard some gossip — she had scored the wonderfully whimsical Judith Leiber champagne flute bag that I saw many audience members eyeing. Yes, she confirmed, “I got that and like a few others I have my eye on that gorgeous Herrera canary yellow gown. It’s time to get dressed up again!”
